How a same-day clean works.

Noon is the cutoff. Where the day has a gap in it we confirm your slot on that first call, at the figure already published rather than a rush rate, and the van arrives loaded for the whole job instead of turning up for a look. A studio is £139, and the ladder rises by bedroom count to £389 and above for five bedrooms or more.

Earlier is better for both of us, and it is not a sales line. Ring at eight and the slot usually comes out of the day's slack. Ring at half eleven and reaching you can mean rescheduling somebody else, which is the one situation where an extra charge can apply. If it does apply, you hear the figure on that call and agree it before anything is booked. Nothing gets added on the doorstep at five.

Why today is realistic here

This city is built for a same-day clean.

Most towns beat same-day cleaning with traffic. Milton Keynes does not. The grid roads are dual carriageway and they meet at roundabouts rather than signals, about 130 of them, so a crew finishing in Bletchley can be unloading in Wolverton without stopping at a red light. Junction 14 of the M1 serves the centre, Campbell Park, Broughton and Newport Pagnell; Junction 13 serves Bletchley and the southern squares. On the estates we park on the driveway and carry the kit a few feet.

Two kinds of address need more notice than the rest, and we would rather say so than promise a slot we cannot fill. The terraced streets at Wolverton, New Bradwell, Stony Stratford, Bletchley and Newport Pagnell are on-street parking, and Bletchley and Stony Stratford both run resident permit schemes, so we ask one access question when you ring. Central Milton Keynes is the other. Parking there is paid every day from 7am to 6pm, the towers want a cleaner signed in at the concierge desk, and the service lift usually has to be booked, which is an hour of the day nobody gets back if it is left until the morning.

A same-day job follows the same room-by-room list as one booked a fortnight out. The oven cavity, the shower screen, inside every cupboard, the skirtings, the window tracks. Fast is about how quickly we get to you, not how quickly we leave.

The one thing speed cannot buy back is limescale. Anglian Water classes this supply hard to very hard, which is what the chalk under the county does to it, so a bathroom left undescaled for two years is the slowest room in the property and the one an inventory clerk goes at hardest. If that is your bathroom, ring at eight rather than at noon.

What to have ready when you ring.

Four things get a same-day booking confirmed in one call instead of three: the address and postcode, the number of bedrooms, how we get in, and the time the keys have to be back. If the property is furnished, or the tenancy has run for years rather than months, say so on the call. That is often the difference between a slot that fits and one that does not.

Leave the electricity and the water on. Get the rubbish out and move anything you are taking with you, because an hour spent shifting your boxes is an hour not spent on the kitchen. If the keys go back through an agent, tell us which office and what time it closes.

Do you charge extra for a same-day clean?

Normally no. Where the day already has a gap, today costs what a fortnight from now would cost. The exception is a late call that only works by shifting somebody else's booking, which can carry an extra charge, and if it does you are told the figure on the phone rather than after the job.

How late can I book a clean for today?

Call by 12 noon. Before nine is easiest and gives us the most room to work with. After midday it usually becomes a next-morning job, and we will still aim to finish before your keys are due back.

Can you come out at the weekend?

By arrangement. Weekend slots run 11am to 3pm, a shorter working window than a weekday, so a Saturday same-day needs an early call.

How long will it take?

Three to four hours on a studio, five to seven on a two-bed flat, seven to nine on a three-bed house, and longer where a bathroom is carrying real scale. Work backwards from your handover time so the clean lands before the clerk does, not around them.

What if you cannot fit me in today?

We will offer you the first slot we do have, usually the next morning, and we will say so straight away rather than leave you hoping. If your checkout is fixed and we cannot beat it, you are better off knowing at nine than at four.

Does a clean booked today get less attention?

No. Same list, same crew, same guarantee behind it. What speed changes is when we turn up, not what happens once we are inside.
